The Admissions Process

We are a non-selective school and children normally join us in Reception class. If a place is available, children may also join in any year group at any point in the school year. Our maximum class size is 20 children and we will operate a waiting list in accordance with our Admissions Policy if a class is oversubscribed.

The first thing to do is to visit us, and we welcome visits at any time whilst the school is in session. We can arrange visits at other times but the best time to come is when our children are here - they are our best ambassadors! At all visits the Headteacher will meet with you to show you the school and answer any questions you may have. Please call the School Office on 01536 512066 or email STPSOffice@st-peters.org.uk to make an appointment or complete our 'Request a Prospectus' form.

If your interest is in Reception to Year 6, the Headteacher will discuss with you your child’s academic and social progress at their current school, or if they are attending a preschool their social and skills development. You will be shown around the School, to enable you to see pupils and teachers at work together, and pupils’ work will also be available for you to view. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions specific to the School or your child’s needs. If your child currently attends another school, please bring along a copy of the last two school reports. We hold open days regularly where we invite prospective families to visit us to see the School in action,

Entry to Reception Class

If your child has not attended St Peter's Preschool, after registering with us, we will invite them to spend a short morning in our Preschool prior to an offer being made. This is to enable your child to feel at ease with us and enjoy their time here. Assessment is very informal and our staff are very experienced in welcoming new children and making them feel at ease.

Entry to other year groups

Following registration, we will invite your child to spend a morning with us in their year group and stay for lunch. Through informal assessment, the purpose of this session is to ensure that your child will feel happy and confident in joining their peers and will be able to fully access our curriculum. There is no pass or fail, and whilst your child has lunch, you will meet with the Headteacher to discuss the offer of a place. We can facilitate an immediate entry if this is required and appropriate. Please bring along your child’s last three school reports.

The aim of the Taster Morning is to give your child a taste of life at St Peter’s School. It is also an opportunity for teachers to gain an initial impression of your child’s abilities and needs. Individual tests will not be given to your child on this day, but there will be some reading, writing and mathematical activities that he/she takes part in, along with all the children in the class. You will be asked to meet with the Headteacher prior to collecting your child at the end of the Taster Morning, to discuss the next stage of the application.

When a place has been formally offered and a start date agreed, you will be asked to sign a Form of Acceptance. This must be signed by both parents or those with parental responsibility, and a refundable deposit of £500 will secure the place. This will be confirmed in writing. You will then receive a joining pack in the half-term before entry. This will include information about home school communication, uniform, various forms and the information you will need on joining the School. We can also facilitate a swift entry shortly after the taster if that is the parents wish. We hold all uniform onsite which makes this process easier.

If the year group is at its optimum size, we operate a waiting list for registered parents. This keeps the lines of communication open between us and whilst we cannot guarantee a place will become available, we can keep you updated of any potential movement.

To register your child with St Peter’s School please download/complete the registration form below and return it to us with the registration fee of £60 which may be paid by card over the telephone by calling the School office.
