If I were to describe the school in one word… it would be ‘belonging’.

Being part of a House encourages every child to feel a sense of belonging and provides our older pupils with the opportunity to support the younger ones, learning the responsibility of becoming a role model. Above all, our House system promotes a sense of friendly competition that enhances children’s understanding of how to win and lose in the right way.

All pupils, from Reception to Year 6, are members of a House, as are all of the teachers. Pupils actively participate in a variety of competitive and worthwhile activities in the name of their House and proudly wear the badge of their House colour on their blazers (Upper School only). House points are awarded throughout the year for effort and behaviour in numerous competitions across all aspects of school life, as well as for sporting endeavours such as sports day, swimming galas and termly House matches. The Year 6 House Captains have the responsibility of leading their Houses during the year. This will range from picking sports teams, encouraging and supporting their House mates in all undertakings, through to organising events throughout the year.

All of the houses are named after local villages and their green spaces and lakes.

The House system is very important for a number of reasons:

  • It brings a focus to the academic rewards system
  • It enables both older and younger pupils to develop respect for each other
  • It presents role models to the younger pupils
  • It brings opportunities for encouragement, leadership and responsibility
  • It brings together Lower School and Upper School
  • It brings a sense of teamwork and team spirit
  • It brings parents together in support of house events
  • It helps prepare pupils for the secondary school house systems.

Points are gained for your house throughout the school year and the winning house is rewarded.
