Mark Thomas

Headteacher & DSL

Mark has worked in education since 2003 and has held a variety of posts in a number of top schools. He began his career in the drama department at Oakham School before moving to Uppingham School in 2006. He stayed there for 7 wonderful years. Mark already had an Engineering degree but decided that he'd like the challenge of becoming a primary school teacher, so he transferred to a school-based PGCE at Bourne Abbey Academy, a large, outstanding, 3-form entry school close to his home. It was there that he became a Year 6 teacher and fell in love with primary education. Mark went on to become Head of Maths and later a Senior Leader at Copthill Independent School where he spent 5 years developing as a leader. In 2019 Mark travelled to Nepal and rebuilt a primary school devastated by an earthquake in the Himalayas. It was this experience that inspired Mark to progress into Headship. Mark joined St Peter's School in 2020, weeks before the global pandemic and has enjoyed helping to grow the beautiful and traditional Prep School. Mark has two dogs, Nala and Minnie, who love coming into school and hearing the children read.
