Tammy Butler
Curriculum Lead & Year 6 Teacher
Tammy is a dedicated and passionate educator with over two decades of experience in both independent and state schools. After earning her Bachelor of Education in English and Drama from the University of Cambridge, she began her career at a boarding school in rural Suffolk, where she embraced the roles of house mother and mentor to her students.
From there, she advanced to her first leadership position at a prestigious private boarding school in Berkshire. After meeting her future husband, Tammy returned to her family roots along the Cambridgeshire/Northamptonshire border, where she climbed the career ladder by leading year groups, key stages, and large departments in both preparatory and middle schools. Along the way, she also grew her own family and is now the proud mother of three children, including a teenager, giving her firsthand experience in parenting primary-aged kids.
In 2015, Tammy joined the St. Peter’s community and became a valued member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team. With her extensive experience teaching Year 7 and Year 8, she is exceptionally well-equipped to guide Year 6 students as they transition to the independence and expectations of senior school. Tammy is particularly passionate about integrating different curriculum subjects, fostering a holistic approach to education.
One of her favourite aspects of her role is interacting with students across the entire school. As the PSHE Subject Champion, she takes joy in teaching younger children and can often be found greeting them at the gate with a warm smile and a wave. Tammy believes that one of the greatest strengths of St. Peter’s is the close-knit community, where everyone—students and staff alike—knows each other and engages with one another. She especially enjoys the lively playtimes on the field, which are filled with laughter and camaraderie.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Tammy finds immense fulfilment in mentoring student teachers from Northampton University, guiding them through their placements. She has also coached Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and participated in interviews for prospective university students.
Currently, Tammy is pursuing her NPQSL and Level 5 Operations and Departmental Management Qualification, further enhancing her leadership skills and expertise.
