‘Storytime on the South Lawn’, ‘My Favourite Book’ assemblies and Teachers’ Story Swap……..these were some of the events taking place at St Peter’s School last week!
In her storytellers cloak, Mrs Eyles enthralled us with tales of ‘The Old Woman in the Vinegar Bottle’ whilst Mr Holmes talked to us about his treasured collection of comics, which got him hooked on reading from an early age. During the Teachers’ Story Swap, Mrs Lee was to be found in Year Six reading a chapter from our old favourite: ‘Paddington’ whilst Mrs Cruickshank shared some happy memories of ‘Swallows and Amazons’ with Key Stage Two.
Over the course of the week, pupils enjoyed participating in three competitions: to create the best book review, the most beautifully decorated bookmark and also to complete a literary quiz. Book prizes were awarded to five children and these were presented during our Whole School Assembly: Casey Lim (6CV) and Tom Styles (Reception) won the bookmark competition, Sherry Naeem (3JC) won the quiz and Agastya Ghosh (3JC) and Zara Warne (1KS) won the book review competition. Well done to all our entrants-there was some super work!
Another highlight of the week was the arrival of the Book Fair with the Late Club Mobile being transformed into a bookshop for the week. Emily Laskey of 5JL reports: St Peter’s Book Fair went down a treat. There was fantastic support from parents and children, so thank you to all who attended! The Mini Librarians, Mary, Emily, Zana and Naomi all helped out after school on different nights to sell the books and performed the tricky task of writing down everyone’s name and purchases.
Because of our excellent sales figures, we earned a large number of free books for the school which will benefit all year groups.
