  • As Assessment Week draws to a close for pupils in Reception and Key Stage Two, I would like to commend our boys and girls for the excellent manner in which they have conducted themselves throughout these tests.  Pupils in Year Six were sitting SATs externally this year, and seemed particularly grateful for the fact that the weather has been cool.  It certainly assisted them in keeping an equally cool and level head, when faced with the challenge of working for the best National Curriculum Level they can get. However, I have a feeling that all those past papers, practice questions and extra homework tasks were mainly responsible for the confident approach! Well done to all pupils who are nearing the end of their assessments, and good luck to those in Year 1 and 2 who embark on theirs after half term.

  • Pupils in 1KSand 2GM took part in a Games Morning earlier today, when a round robin of activities was set up for the purpose of physical skills development….and fun too!  Early netball skills were the focus of one task, as well as hoop and beanbag work, involving throwing, aiming and catching.  As adults, it is easy for us to take such skills for granted.  In skipping for instance, balance, coordination, timing and confidence are the ingredients that can be so easy for ‘grown ups’ to dismiss, but it can be a momentous occasion for a child when he or she feels that they can skip, or catch or throw a ball!

  • The letter regarding appointments for ‘end of academic year parent-teacher consultations’ has been distributed with this bulletin.  Please be advised that the quicker the reply slip is returned, the more chance of the appointment of your choice being available.

  • Next week’s School assembly will be led by 1KS.  Parents of pupils in this class are invited to attend, on Thursday 24th May.  Please report to the School Office at 10.20am from where I will walk up to the Hall with you.

  • Last week pupils in 2GM and 3CVR who have been attending speech and drama classes with Mrs Sally Arnold, took part in The Poetry Vanguard examinations.  These were externally assessed, and this year’s results were once again of a high standard.  Well done to the pupils concerned!

  • It seems that our netballers just do not want the season to end. There will be a tournament held at Avondale on Saturday 9th June.

  • Still with sport, the response to Cricket Club has been excellent.  Each Thursday, boys and girls have been involved in cricket coaching, led by Carl Sanders and his colleagues from Loddington Cricket Club. Pupils have been working on developing their batting, fielding and bowling techniques. Each week the drills used to develop these areas of skill are varied, adding to the challenge for our pupils!  There will be a half term cricket course held at Loddington Cricket Club from 10am to 3pm.  A leaflet giving further details will be distributed shortly.

  • There will be no swimming for pupils in 2GM next week, because the pool is being used for St Peter’s School Swimming Gala which involves our Key Stage Two pupils.  Parents of pupils taking part in this event have received a letter regarding arrangements.

  • Advance details of the arrangements for Founders Day Prize Giving were distributed this week.

  • Lightweight rain jackets are available for purchase from the Uniform Shop.  This is a useful addition to the Summer Uniform, and can be worn over the school blazer, when the weather is wet and mild.

  • The discos arranged for pupils just before the May Day Bank Holiday were very well attended.  It was a joy to watch our boys and girls revelling in an informal social time together, and I was particularly grateful to the mums and dads who ‘showed the way’ by joining in the dancing. Key Stage Two pupils needed no one to show them the steps!  Thanks go to Mrs Sarah Church and Mrs Kerry Drury for organising these PTAFA events.

  • Tickets for the forthcoming Barn Dance are now on sale. If you are looking for a family friendly event, then this is one not to miss, and it takes place on Saturday 16th June.

  • The next bulletin will be issued on Thursday 24th May.
