2nd November 2006 - Before embarking upon their half term holiday, pupils in Key Stage Two took part in the St Peter’s School Conker Championship. After playing qualifying ‘games’ throughout the week’s break-times, each class was represented by its overall winner, with these boys and girls then playing each other on Friday afternoon to determine this year’s winner. Congratulations go to Ravi Mehan in 6PP who possessed both the winning conker and the skills to match!
- Pupils in 1KS are looking forward to a jazz dance workshop which will take place on Friday morning for pupils in 1KS. This will also be experienced by pupils in 2GM on Thursday 9th November. Both these workshops were purchased as a result of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers that parents kindly donated to the School during the latter part of the last academic year. The vouchers also enabled us to add to our playground equipment, giving pupils even more constructive play options during playtimes.
- Netballers were disappointed to learn that their away game with Havelock School was cancelled on Tuesday owing to poor weather. In football this week our team played St Thomas Moore School in the Floodlit Football League. Although they suffered their first defeat of the season (1-0), coach Mr Anthony Holmes was very pleased with our team’s overall performance, noting that last year’s game against this side brought a higher score line for the opponents, and therefore reflected our team’s increase in skills and confidence.
- A letter from Mrs Payne has been distributed this week, outlining the application process for children wishing to enter competitions in Kettering’s 2007 Eisteddfod. If you wish your child to compete then please ensure that replies are returned to Mrs Payne or to the class teacher by 17th November.
- The Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving in School next week, with staff in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One running the event in the front section of the Early/Late Club Mobile. It is hoped that parents and children will welcome the opportunity to stock up on reading materials. If overall sales reach a certain level, a very generous 60% commission is awarded to the School in the form of reading books for pupils. We have a great selection of books at School, but we like to nourish our pupils’ hunger for reading with regular new additions!
- Individual, team and class school photographs were taken at School on Tuesday. The photographers attend a large number of schools, and they commented particularly upon the excellent behaviour of our pupils. The processed photograph proof will be returned to school in due course, with the intention of allowing parents enough time to order and for completed orders to be delivered to School before the end of term.
- There will be a school assembly on the theme of Remembrance next week, when there will be a opportunity for children to reflect upon the significance of this year’s Poppy Appeal. Pupils in Year 6 will occasionally visit classes with the poppy box and tin, so advance notice of this is given should your child wish to purchase their poppy at School.
- Tickets for the PTAFA’s Ghost Hunt are still available from the School Office. This is always a well attended event, enormously popular with children and in particular with a certain group of ‘spooky dads’. Come along and track them down!
- The menu for the Turkey and Tinsel Christmas Dinner organised by Mr and Mrs Fountain is featured in the School notice boards. Half of the tables have already been purchased by a number of parties, so please hurry and place your order to avoid disappointment.
- The next PTAFA meeting is on Wednesday 8th November in Sunnylands Hall. Please come along and support this meeting, when plans for the PTAFA’s annual Christmas Fayre will be discussed.
- The PTAFA plant orders will be delivered to School on Tuesday 7th November. A profit of £71 was made towards PTAFA fund raising, so thanks are conveyed to all those families who supported this initiative, as well as to Mrs Crooks for organising.
- There are still a few days left before the Wednesday 8th November deadline for entries for the St Peter’s School Christmas Card competition, so I hope that there will be more entries delivered to School before then. Please note that pupils can make more than one entry, but it should be on the same template as attached to the original letter detailing the competition. More of these are available from the School Office. The theme of this year’s competition is a Nativity scene.
- The next bulletin will be issued on Thursday 16th November, when there will be a report about Science Week.
