Weekly Bulletin

20th April 2006

  • Welcome to Summer Term 2006 at St Peter’s School, a special term for us all, as it marks the 60th anniversary of the School’s establishment.

  • On Monday the entire School will have its Diamond Jubilee school photograph taken.  For pupils in Key Stage One and Two, it is important that summer uniform is worn on this day, and that as always, long hair is neatly tied back.

  • A pupils’ fun day is planned for Friday 7th July as a lead in to Jubilee Week itself, beginning Monday 10th July.  During the week, a time box will be assembled by pupils and buried in the school grounds, and work relating to the history of the School will form part of the curriculum.  Founders’ Day and the ever popular PTAFA Founders’ Day disco will take place on Thursday 13th July.  The structure of Founders’ Day will be similar to last year, so get your picnic hampers ready! Details of the arrangements will be sent out later this term, but I am delighted to inform you now that Lady Robinson, whose children attended St Peter’s School some years ago, will be our guest speaker.

  • Our Diamond Jubilee Ball takes place on Saturday 15th July, and you will have received a flyer advertising this, and noticed posters around the School too.  Thanks to Mr Moszynski again for kindly donating his skills in their design and production. Thanks also to the encouraging number of parents who have already returned their Diamond Jubilee Ball ticket requests with payment. If you have not yet done so, the good news is that there are tickets available at present.  Additional ticket order forms can be obtained from the School Office.

  • Jubilee celebrations draw to a close on Tuesday 18th July, with a thanksgiving service at the Parish Church of Ss Peter and Paul.  This marks the last day of term.  Please note that whilst this was originally posted as a half day, it will now be a full School day, so that pupils can enjoy a Jubilee Lunch at School, and say goodbye to friends and teachers before the summer holiday.

  • Earlier in the term, on 29th June there will be a CD recorded, comprising songs and instrumental music from all areas of the School. Copies will be on sale to parents before the end of term as a memento of some of the excellent music created by our pupils during this Diamond Jubilee year.

  • Returning to matters of immediate relevance, a clubs application form was distributed to pupils yesterday.  It is the intention for all clubs to start from next week, but this will only be possible if parents return the completed form to School by tomorrow at the very latest.  The start and finish times of each club have been supplied on a separate sheet so that parents can keep this information to hand.  As with last term’s club arrangements, acknowledgement slips will be sent out throughout next week with pupils (please ask them to retrieve this from their school bag) so that you know if your child has been placed in a particular club.  Please also be aware that some clubs were oversubscribed way back in September, so in the interest of fair play they were ‘shared out’ between children, even if that meant only half a term’s ‘go’ at a particular club.

  • A letter regarding arrangements for Monday’s ‘share your work’ session was distributed to pupils on Wednesday.  Again, if it has not ‘reached’ you, please retrieve it from your child’s school bag, so that the reply slip can be completed and returned to School.  Many pupils have been looking forward to this event for some time, relishing the opportunity to show their parents all of their work.

  • Hard work and its standard will be measured in a few weeks time, with Assessment Week, beginning on 2nd May!  Please try to avoid this particular week for any appointments that would involve pupils missing School, if at all possible.  The outcome of the assessments will be discussed at the forthcoming parent-teacher consultation evenings, on Wed 24th and Thurs 25th May, details of which will go out nearer the time.

  • Curriculum projections for Summer Term are enclosed with this bulletin, giving parents a summary of the topics being covered in all subjects.  This allows further work at home, be this using the local library, purchasing books linked to the topics or using the internet safely to extend knowledge and understanding even further.

  • Earlier this year, as in previous years, St Peter’s School entered into the Sainsbury’s Small Schools under 11 Soccer Sixes, winning the Eccles Shield, which qualified them for the regional final.  This took place on the first Saturday of the Easter break, with Mr Holmes taking our team up to Grove Farm, one of the sports campuses of Nottingham University.  The weather gradually worsened as our team played their first game, which had to be stopped for ten minutes when conditions became so severe!  Our pupils lost their first match to a very experienced team; they played a more encouraging second game and drew in their third.  Our team really enjoyed the day, and Mr Holmes reports that they represented the School well.

  • In netball, the last match of Lent Term was away and against Broughton.  Our girls enjoyed a 13-1 win, meaning that during this season they have so far only lost one match, which was played in particularly challenging weather conditions!  Miss Farrant and Mrs Marshall look forward to the team featuring high in the league as a result.  There will be a Kettering Schools netball tournament on Saturday 20th May at Avondale, which we hope will serve to end another particularly successful season for St Peter’s netballers.

  • There will be a PTAFA meeting on Tuesday 25th April at 7.30pm in Sunnylands Hall to discuss forthcoming social events for parents, pupils, teachers and friends of the School.  The next evening event will be held on Saturday 6th May, when a Race Evening takes place in Sunnylands Hall.  Tickets for this fun event are available from the School Office, and from Mrs McCallum, who is organising the event on behalf of the PTAFA.

  • The last PTAFA Cake Stall of Lent Term raised £47.60 for the Lakeland Hospice. The next Cake Stall will take place on Friday 28th April with money being raised for Dr Barnardo’s. The Used Book Stall will also run on this day, so in the absence of a book fair this term, why not come along and commit to some reading from ‘recycled’ books.

  • The next bulletin will be issued on Thursday 4th May.
