Weekly Bulletin

22nd September 2005

  • Today we welcomed parents of pupils in Year Six to our whole school assembly.  The class presented an assembly, sharing with us all poems, art and an array of facts about autumn, this being the week’s assembly theme.

  • On Tuesday our netball team played an away match against Avondale.  This first match of the season resulted in an 8-0 win for our girls, who are now angling for further success when they play St Edwards next Wednesday after school.  We hope that there will be an excellent turn out of supporters for this first home match of the season.
  • Similarly everyone is welcome to join us in supporting our St Peter’s girls’ football team in a 6 a side home game against Hall Meadow, to be played on Tuesday 27th September.

  • On Wednesday our Year 5 and 6 footballers met Hall Meadow in a six a side match.  This was the first outing for our new St Peter’s football team, and it proved to be a promising debut.  A late goal from Hall Meadow sealed their 2-0 victory in what was a tightly contested game.  The St Peter’s team coaches were very encouraged by the level of potential shown by our boys.

  • Still on the theme of football, the The Crescent’s Floodlit Football League starts up again next week.  Our first game will be against Meadowside, and will be played at 4pm at Avondale School.

  • Last night’s Annual General Meeting of the PTAFA was very well attended.  Officers were elected and dates were set for the year’s events.  The first of these is the Harvest Supper, on Thursday 29th September at 7pm. A letter from the PTAFA accompanies this bulletin, with details of tickets.  Please try to be specific about the number of children attending with you.  Whilst there is no charge for children, it is helpful for the PTAFA catering crew for this event to have accurate numbers.

  • Pupils will take part in a Harvest Festival next Thursday 29th September.  In preparation for this we would like donations of fruit, vegetables and other foods as well as plenty of flowers so that a display of the produce we have gathered can be prepared for pupils to enjoy at their assembly, which will be led next week by Reverend Jenny.  Please send donations in to school on Wednesday 28thSeptember.  Envelopes will also be given out to pupils next week, to invite each family to make a donation to the Goodwill Village in India.

  • Please note that there will be no late club on Monday 3rd October 2005 due to a whole staff training session that will take place immediately after School.  It is hoped that advanced warning of this date will provide parents with sufficient time to make alternative arrangements for the collection of their child after school, should this be necessary.

  • All clubs have now commenced.  With so many clubs being held on Thursday, Choir will now run on selected Mondays after school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.  This replaces the original published ‘after school’ slot on Thursday, so that more children have the opportunity to attend.  A list of rehearsal dates will shortly be circulated. Please encourage your child to attend choir.  It has been the wish of so many parents for there to be a choir at St Peter’s, and this year it is hoped that the club will run throughout the whole year if it is well supported!

  • Pupils have been reminded this week that good behaviour and concentration at clubs is expected.  We want clubs to be fun, and also to be times when children can learn new skills that are not always served by the formal curriculum.  I have asked staff to speak to parents if they feel that a pupil is not taking seriously the purpose of the club.  Last year pupils attended clubs regularly and their attitude was most positive, leading us to expect the same this year!

  • As we approach the end of Art Week at St Peter’s it is evident that our pupils have had a super time participating in a wide variety of activities, many of which were outlined in last week’s bulletin.  Pupils work was both class based and collaborative, allowing the opportunity for work with other year groups.  We look forward to a variety of masterpieces being displayed around the School, with some of them providing the backdrop for the forthcoming PTAFA Harvest Supper.
