15th September 2005

  • It has been another busy week at St Peter’s, with pupils well into their journey through the term’s planned curriculum.  Homework routines have started, with teachers reporting that pupils are keeping homework diaries neat, and completing homework by the specified deadlines.   Please encourage your child to read aloud at home on the days when reading homework is set, after which the reading record should be signed and a comment written in.

  • Speech and drama, piano, flute, and ballet lessons have also commenced.  Mrs Meeks was delighted with the results from the examinations taken at the end of last term.  Well done to all those pupils who went through the rigorous process of preparing for them.

  • This letter accompanies Michaelmas Term curriculum projections for Key Stage One, Two and Foundation Stage.  Homework and class timetables are also attached, unless you have already received them from your child’s class teacher earlier in the week.

  • On Monday a timetable of school clubs was sent out together with an application form, which you are kindly asked to return by tomorrow if you have not already done so, to allow time for registers to be drawn up.  Teachers will formulate waiting lists for the more popular clubs, and pupils will be informed as to when in the school year their ‘turn’ at a club will take place.

  • Clubs will start next week, but in a bid to further their successes of last year, our netballers met after School yesterday for their first practice.  Miss Farrant and Mrs Marshall are encouraged by the level of skills and enthusiasm shown.  We all look forward to some exciting match reports to come!

  • The School calendar is complete, but its final publication will be delayed until the PTAFA AGM which takes place on Wednesday 21st September, at 7.30pm in Sunnylands Hall.  This will allow for any dates that are decided for events to be added to our School calendar.  Last week’s bulletin gave notice of some forthcoming dates. Job descriptions relating to the positions available on the PTAFA committee were sent out on Monday, together with an application form for the election of officers that will take place at the AGM.  Please return completed forms to the office by Monday 19th September.

  • In addition to the planned timetable, Art Week will take place next week, with an assortment of activities planned for pupils in all year groups.  Mrs Dreyer and Mrs Cumming will lead Key Stage Two pupils in a collaborative art project involving art and music.  Later in the week pupils in Year 3 through to Year 6 will also each work on the design and decoration of a ‘pinch pot’.  Younger pupils in Nursery will use finger painting to create images of ears of corn, whilst pupils in Reception class will produce a still life picture of ‘the fruits of the harvest’.  Still on this theme, children in Years 1 and 2 will work collaboratively on a ‘Harvest of the Sea’ project.

  • It is hoped that parents will appreciate advanced notice of St Peter’s Harvest Festival, which takes place on Thursday 29th September.  Pupils will be asked to bring in donations of food that will later be distributed among the community.  We hope that children will enjoy taking some time to decorate and fill a small box or similar container with food.  Further details of dates on which the collection takes place will follow.

  • With regard to the end of the school day, please note that children will be available for collection at 3.20pm in Nursery (for afternoon session) through to Year 2, and at 3.30pm for pupils in Year 3 to Year 6.  Last week’s bulletin may have caused some confusion over this!

  • I am sure that parents will agree that pupils are looking smart and well presented. There is always a plea at the start of term for parents to ensure that all items of uniform are labelled, and this term is no exception!  Pupils should be wearing their hats and caps into and out of school.  Those pupils accompanied by parents who are cycling to School, are advised to wear a cycle helmet. This can be replaced by the school hat or cap upon arrival into School.

  • The usual expectation of good behaviour, manners, effort and work has been firmly established by teachers at the start of this academic year. Standards of education and appearance are important to us all, in a desire to safeguard the excellent reputation St Peter’s has earned for itself.
