Weekly Bulletin

16th June 2005

  • It has been another busy week for our pupils.  Those in Key Stage One had a great day at West Lodge Rural Centre on Wednesday, despite the rain.  The outing offered an opportunity for our boys and girls to put into context the scientific knowledge they have acquired during their year.  Identifying plants, discussing the differences between wild and farm animals, and finding a deer’s hoof print were just some of the activities the children experienced and were talking about upon their return to St Peter’s.  Hands-on experience really is one of the best ways of learning.

  • Children in 1SW held a Teddy Bear’s picnic earlier this afternoon.  Mrs Arnold’s Speech and Drama groups performed to children in Reception class, who were enthralled at the range of poetry presented.  Many pupils from right across the age range will be taking part in English Speaking Board or Poetry Vanguard examinations next Saturday.  We wish them well.

  • A short coffee morning for parents of Key Stage Two pupils was held yesterday and today, after which pupils in Key Stage Two presented their Summer Concert.  The performance began with songs about working and travelling. This was followed by a choir of ocarinas played by pupils in Year Three, a recorder consort made up of pupils in Year Four and Five, and then Year Six pupils played a recorder medley incorporating two part harmony.  A modern musical version of Macbeth was the highlight of the show for many.  Parents and teachers alike were very proud of the pupils’ achievements.   The blackout blinds and PA system purchased with funds raised by the PTAFA undoubtedly enhanced the whole production.

  • St Peter’s School Sports Day takes place next week.  Parents of pupils in Key Stage Two are welcome to watch the field events from 9am, and all parents are invited to track events during the afternoon session, starting at 1.30pm.  Children in all classes should come to school in their tracksuit, shorts, House T-shirt, short white ankle socks and trainers.

  • Mrs Arnold has distributed information to parents of pupils in Reception giving details of Speech and Drama classes for next year.  There will be some vacancies in her already tight schedule, so do please respond quickly in order to secure a place.  Parents of pupils in other year groups who would like their children to join in with Speech and Drama should contact the School office, who will then pass on your contact details to Mrs Arnold. There will also be a few vacancies for ballet classes which are given by Mrs Meeks.  Please inform the School Office if you would like your name passed onto her.

  • A letter accompanies this bulletin giving details of instrumental tuition that could be on offer during the next academic year, depending upon interest.  After reading the information please send your reply slip in to School tomorrow or Monday at the latest, so that Northamptonshire Music Service can be sent the details.  Flute and piano lessons will continue to be offered by Mrs Knight.  She may have a few vacancies for September, but parents are advised to contact her this term through the School Office in order to book up lessons.

  • Last week’s Scholastic Book Fair was very well supported.  There is a lot of reading going on among our pupils, and now that your Book Fair purchases have earned book voucher commission of just under £500, there will be even more choice of reading material on offer for the children.  Readathon comes to a close after this coming weekend, and then the important task of collecting sponsor money begins.

  • The uniform shop will continue to open at 3pm each Monday during this half term.  It will also open specifically for parents of children in next year’s Reception and Nursery on Wednesday 6th July from 10am to 3pm. The Uniform Shop is also open on other dates for everyone: Wednesday 24th August from 10am to 2pm and then on Monday 5th September from 2pm to 3.30pm.  It is anticipated that this last date will be one that parents use to collect already ordered items.  Please telephone the School Office this half term to book a Uniform Shop appointment. Times can then be booked for everyone based on the amount of uniform that needs to be purchased, and this in turn will hopefully minimise waiting time for other customers.

  • The PTAFA cake stall will run on Friday 24th June, the proceeds of which will be donated to Kettering Centre for the Unemployed, as requested by some of our parents.  We are never short of ideas for national charities to support through the Cake Stall, but we always welcome ideas for local charities too, so do please pass on any ideas to the PTAFA via the School Office.

  • The PTAFA Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 21st September.  Not only will there be an overview of what has been an extremely successful year, but there will be the voting in of a new committee.  It is hoped that parents will consider standing for office. There will be information sent out before the end of term from the PTAFA informing you of which offices are available, and details of what each position entails.

  • Saturday’s Barn Dance promises to be a lively affair.  Many of you have already purchased tickets, but if you have not done so yet, they are still available from the School office.  The weather forecast looks very favourable too!
