  • Last week brought with it numerous successes at Kettering Eisteddfod.  Pupils participating in recorder, ocarina, individual verse speaking and solo singing classes attained marks and adjudications worthy of celebration.  The amount of home practice, and parental support in ensuring that this took place had a huge impact not only upon the performances but most importantly upon the confidence of our youngsters, who approached their competitions with a feeling of being thoroughly prepared.  Staff worked extremely hard too in rehearsing pupils during lunchtimes for these competitions.  Pupils attending flute, piano and speech and drama classes during school time who took part in the Eisteddfod gave some excellent performances, and there were many first, second and third places awarded to them too.

  • Friday was a particularly successful day, with St Peter’s School Choir being awarded first place in two competitions.  Our Eisteddfod week was rounded off with both the year 3 & 4 and the year 5 & 6 entries winning their group speaking categories!  Earlier in the week the Key Stage One ocarina group were winners in their category.

  • On Wednesday there was a concert given by some of our competitors to pupils.  Not only was this an opportunity to celebrate their success, but this was also a chance to inspire all of our pupils either to continue striving for excellence when entering such competitions, or to make the decision to enter the Eisteddfod next year.

  • Reverend Nick led our whole School assembly on Tuesday, about the true meaning of Easter.  Reverend Nick helped the children to consider this in a way that made it relevant to their own lives and a generous measure of fun also helped the proceedings!

  • Winter Games Day was narrowly won by Rutland. The Lent Term’s school magazine, which will be distributed after the Easter break, will give a more detailed account of this event.  This term may have been a short one, but the many activities which have been packed into it will also be reviewed in our magazine.

  • Following the recent scare regarding Sudan 1 red food dye, parents should be aware that school lunches served at St Peter’s are cooked on the premises using fresh produce, rather than the processed products that contain Sudan 1.  Additionally, our School has been the recipient of a Heartbeat award for healthy eating for a number of years.  Our chef is well versed in the art of concealing all manner of vegetables.  The pasta bake served earlier this week contained eight varieties!  Fresh fruit is a dessert option each day.

  • Reports for Lent Term have been issued to the children today.  These are short reports, with the effort and attainment categories aimed to provide parents with specific information relating to pupil progress.  There will be a formal opportunity to meet with class teachers during the Summer Term.  However, if you wish to discuss your child’s progress prior to this, as always you are welcome to arrange to meet with the class teacher.

  • When pupils return after the Easter break, they are welcome to wear their summer uniform.  Whilst this is optional for the first part of the Summer Term, with many parents opting to send children in winter uniform, it becomes a requirement for all pupils to be wearing summer uniform from Tuesday 3rd May.  Please be aware that blazers are part of summer uniform, and that girls should wear the summer straw boater on each day apart from Friday.  With advance notice of this, it is hoped that you will all have sufficient time to place orders and make any necessary purchases from the Uniform Shop, open each Monday from 3pm.

  • The PTAFA invitation to purchase summer bedding plants has not yet brought about the usual excellent response of orders.  Do please help us turn this situation around.  The deadline for orders is shortly after our return to School following the Easter holiday: Friday 8th April.  The plants are priced very reasonably and are always of a good quality.  If you require another order form please drop in to the School Office to request one.

  • The next PTAFA meeting will be held in Sunnylands Hall on Tuesday 5th April at 7.30pm.  Please do not feel that you can only attend if you are a ‘regular’ supporter of the PTAFA.  Your involvement is appreciated at whatever stage of the academic year, and even if only for a limited period of time.  The next PTAFA event is the Murder Mystery evening on Saturday 16th April.  The thespian contingent of the PTAFA has been meeting regularly to rehearse their presentation of the crime.  Amateur sleuths and those just out for a good ‘night out’ are urged to purchase tickets from the School Office.  These are now available, priced £7.50, and include a hot supper. Further details of this event can be found in the PTAFA notice boards.

  • I would like to take this opportunity to wish parents, pupils and staff a restful break and a joyous celebration of Easter.
